A Typical Day in the Life of a Sixth Grader
Sixth graders have a busy schedule throughout their school day. They are on the block schedule, and the first block is made up of classes called "specials" which include study skills or music and daily physical education. Blocks 2 and 3 meet before lunch and are eighty minutes. After lunch, students have a homeroom period; every day students read for twenty minutes and then work on assignments for twenty minutes. Students who are in band and/or chorus meet at the high school during homeroom. Block 4 is the last eighty-minute class, and by the end of the day, students have had physical education, music or study skills, social studies, math, science, computer, English and reading.
Merit Activities
Students are rewarded for good behavior, being organized, and having assignments turned in on time. They can participate in a merit activity. Students with no demerits recently walked to the Polo Substop for ice cream. Other merit activities throughout the year will include going to the park, bowling, and a movie with popcorn.
Student of the Month/Good Citizen Award
Each month the sixth grade teaching team selects a student to receive the Good Citizen Award. It is given to a student who works hard in the classroom, is courteous, is a positive role model, and demonstrates outstanding school citizenship. They will be receiving a U.S. Savings Bond, and look for their pictures in the Tri-County Newspaper.
