Local Scholarship Opportunities

Local scholarships will be avaiable in the Counseling Office during March 2010. The deadline for all scholarships is April 9, 2010.

 

Polo Lion’s Club Endowment

The Polo Lion’s Club has established an endowment fund for the purpose of offering a $200 scholarship to a PCHS graduating senior who is enrolled as a full-time student at Sauk Valley Community College next fall.

 

Polo Education Association Scholarships

The Polo Education Association will award a $500 scholarship to an outstanding senior who is planning to become a teacher and one or more $200 scholarships to outstanding senior(s) who plan to enter any field of study.

 

Suits, P.C. Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated good citizenship and the highest ethical standards. There are no restrictions as to the field of study the student is pursuing or the school that the student is attending.

 

The Betty McCaffrey Scholarships

Up to six scholarships each worth $250 will be awarded to P.C.H.S. graduates who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. A current resident of the Polo School District, living with their parents.
  2. Enrolled as a full-time student (minimum of twelve credit hours) in a
    Certificate or Associate Degree Program at Sauk Valley Community College.
  3. The recipient cannot have reached his/her twentieth birthday at the time the
    award is granted.

Factors considered in the selection of recipients of the scholarships include:
financial need, citizenship, high school grades and attendance record.

 

The Chad Johnson Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior who plans to attend a technical school, 2-year or 4-year college, or university. This student must be a well-rounded student who demonstrates good citizenship and the highest ethical standards. The student must be one who always sees the glass “half full”. Applicants will be evaluated on the strength of their academic performance, participation in school-related activities, community involvement, character, and strength of their personal statement.

 

Elly Wedin Erdman Scholarship

In memory of Mrs. Erdman, a former teacher within the Polo School District, the Erdman family is offering a $1000 scholarship to a PCHS senior who will be pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Science, Elementary Education, or Family and Consumer Science while attending an institution of higher learning.

 

Polo School Foundation Scholarship

The Polo School Foundation is offering at least one $500 scholarship to be awarded to a P.C.H.S. graduate who meets the following requirements:

  1. A current resident of the Polo School District, living with their parents at the
    time of their application.
  2. Enrolled as a full-time student (minimum of twelve credit hours) in a degree
    program at a two-year or four-year post-secondary institution.
  3. The recipient cannot have reached his/her twentieth birthday at the time the
    award is granted.

The Elmer Adee and Pauline Adee Scholarship

The Elmer Adee and Pauline Adee Scholarship provides financial assistance to a Polo Community High School graduate who is enrolled at a college or university with preference being given to students who are taking courses in Agriculture. The scholarship is to be used for tuition and/or textbooks. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of general worthiness of the recipient with consideration being given to character, academic ability and financial need.

 

Howard W. Garrison Memorial Scholarship – Music

This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding PCHS senior based upon the following criteria:

  1. Financial Need
  2. Good Citizenship and High Ethical Standards
  3. Strength of High School Performance (PCHS transcript must be included in application packet)
  4. Recipient must enroll as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours) in a degree program at a 2-year or 4-year post-secondary institution.
  5. School and community involvement, especially within the music realm

 

This scholarship is awarded in the spring of the student’s senior year, but the check will not be issued until the beginning of the SPRING QUARTER or SECOND SEMESTER of the student’s freshman year in college.  The student must submit a copy of his/her first term to the PCHS Counseling Office that should include the student’s current address.
